Frequently asked questions

Here are the answers to the questions we hear most often from patients and doctors. Medbook is in development, so some answers describe how we are designing the platform rather than features that already work. If your question isn't here, write to us.

General

What is Medbook?

Medbook is a digital platform that brings your scattered medical documents – discharge letters, lab results, consultations, PDFs and photos – together into one structured record, arranged over time.

On top of that record, Medbook prepares the visit: you see your history in plain language, and a doctor you give access to receives a prepared summary that links back to every original document. So you don't have to retell your history to every new doctor.

Can I use Medbook now?

Not yet. Medbook is in development, and at the moment you can't sign up, upload documents or use the platform.

We are starting step by step in the Plovdiv region – first with a small group of doctors in our Design Partner programme, then with early access for patients. If you'd like us to let you know when early access opens in your region, join the early-access list.

Does Medbook replace my doctor, NZIS or medical software?

No. Medbook doesn't replace your doctor – medical assessment and decisions always stay with them.

Nor does Medbook replace NZIS (the Bulgarian National Health Information System) or the software your doctor uses. It works alongside them: we plan for NZIS to be a data source once an official integration is in place, and doctors keep working in their own system, copying the prepared text into it if they choose.

For patients

How much will Medbook cost?

Your profile and medical record will be free, with no subscription. NZIS data will never be charged separately. The first 10 pages of external documents will also be processed free of charge.

Only additional actions that involve real processing will be paid – for example processing documents beyond the free allowance, or “Analyse and send to my GP”. You pay only when you choose such an action, and your balance will be shown in euros. Prices will be published before launch.

Who will see my record?

Only you and the doctors you choose to give access to. We are designing sharing so that access is given for a specific visit, with a scope you choose, and ends afterwards.

Sensitive actions will be recorded in an audit log, and support staff will not have automatic access to medical content.

Does the AI diagnose?

No. The patient side of Medbook only explains the information in your documents in plain language and, where appropriate, suggests that you discuss something with a doctor. It does not diagnose and does not prescribe treatment.

The professional tools for doctors are in development and will be available only to verified medical professionals. The doctor always reviews the prepared information and decides.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. The platform is being designed so that you can delete a single document or your whole record. Deletion will cover not only the original file but also the extracted text, the structured data and the analyses that depend on it, unless the law requires something to be kept.

The exact timescales and procedure will be set out in the platform's privacy notice before launch.

Can I manage a relative's record?

We are planning a caregiver role – for example for a parent or a child – but only with proper consent or a legal basis for acting on someone's behalf. We will work out exactly how this is verified before we offer the feature.

If you care for someone close to you, you can join the early-access list as a caregiver – that tells us this matters to you.

How will I add documents?

We are designing three simple ways: scanning with your phone camera, uploading a PDF or photo and – once an official integration is in place – adding data from NZIS. You won't need to sort or label documents in advance. The original is always kept unchanged.

For doctors

Which specialties are you starting with?

The first specialties are nephrology, endocrinology and cardiology – fields where the visit depends heavily on long-term data, lab trends and medication. GPs take part free of charge as the coordinating link. We will add other specialties step by step.

How will doctors be verified?

Professional profiles will require a check of your UIN (the Bulgarian doctor's registration number) and specialty, plus strong authentication with two-factor sign-in. We also plan to support electronic identification. We will confirm the exact method before launch.

Do I need to change my medical software?

No. You keep working in your own system. Medbook prepares the material for the visit; you review it, edit it if needed and copy the part you choose into the software you already use. Automatic writing into external systems is not a requirement for working with Medbook.

How will credits work?

Your profile and patient invitations will be free, with no subscription. You pay only for a new analysis – a General Doctor Dossier or a Specialty Pre-Visit – using prepaid credits.

Every newly verified doctor after the pilot phase will receive 10 free analyses. Prices will be published before launch.

What is the Design Partner programme?

It is a small group of 3–5 doctors who will use Medbook first and give us structured feedback. During the pilot (around 1–2 months) taking part is free, and afterwards partners receive preferential terms.

If you work in the Plovdiv region in one of the first specialties, apply on the programme page.

Security and data

Where will the data be stored?

Medical data will be hosted and processed on infrastructure in the EU/EEA. We are designing for encryption in transit and at rest, an audit log of sensitive actions, and access based only on role and the specific visit. SMS and email messages will not contain medical information.

Is my data used to train AI?

Never. Patients' medical data will not be used to train external or internal models. We will only work with providers who guarantee this contractually.

Is Clinical AI a medical device? Does it have a CE mark?

Medbook's professional Clinical AI is being developed within the framework of the EU Medical Device Regulation (MDR). It will not be made available for use until the applicable requirements are met, and it will be available only to verified medical professionals.

Medbook does not currently hold a CE mark. Whatever the preparation, the doctor always reviews the information and decides.

What happens when I delete a document?

Deletion will cover not only the file itself but everything created solely from it: the recognised text, the extracted data, the technical search representations and the analyses that depend only on that document. Analyses that also use other documents will be recalculated or marked as out of date. The only exception will be where the law requires something to be kept.
